Boosting Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality, Leading the World: Disc Shear and Side Trimmer Trail of Wu Steel Silicon Steel New Energy Finishing Unit Goes Successfully

On November 6, 2024, designed and supplied by China National Heavy Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd. (short for Sino-heavymach), the disc shear and side trimmer trail of Wu Steel silicon steel new energy finishing unit went through successfully.

 

Electrical motors of new-energy vehicles had higher and higher demands on the property and performance of silicon steel plates and strips over times, so high silicon content and extra-thin incoming plate and strip became priority needs. In the first trail, the side chopping and trimming for non-oriented and high grade silicon steel was achieved, and the minimum thickness of chopped strip was 0.1mm, the maximum speed was 600m/min, and the capability of trimmed scrap edge width reached to 1mm for each side. Meanwhile, the overlapping adjustment precision, lateral clearance adjustment precision, cutter axial shifting of disc shear has broken through the high-end manufacturing bottleneck of precision cutting device, and advanced to the world top level. The Performance and cutting quality reached highest and leading level respectively in China and over the world.

 

Each parameter required in this project has exceeded the worldwide top level. Adhering to the work attitude of making perfection more perfect, Sino-heavymachs Finishing & Processing Department organized its specialists and experts for elaborate design and tireless test in the aspect of disc shear. Many acceptance criteria of equipment were achieved before delivering from the factory, such as cutter axial runout (cutter shaft holder) and cutter radial runout (cutter holder) of disc shear, gap uniformity of single and a pair of blades (any position at the lateral clearance) of side trimmer, and upper and lower cutter axial shifting etc. The cutting speed of 600m/min was achieved successfully at one time test on the site. At present, the running condition of the equipment was stable, and the quality of the strip edge was good after cutting.

 

After the equipment is put into use, it will help the manufacturing of new energy vehicle drive motor  develop in the direction of miniaturization, lightweight and high integration, improving the electromagnetic compatibility of new energy vehicles, but also making the structure of new energy vehicles more flexible, further decreasing carbon emissions, and contributing to the energy saving and carbon reduction of the whole life cycle of steel materials.

The successful trail at its first time of the project not only fully reflects the strong technical strength of Sino-heavymach, but also is another compelling proof of the innovation ability and comprehensive strength of Sino-heavymach in the field of high-end equipment manufacturing of new energy products in China. In the future, Sino-heavymach will continue to uphold the spirit of innovation on the road of practicing the national Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality strategy, lead the development of the industry with technology, and create more value for end-users.
